Honduras-Craft Market Supply Chain

[English]

My name is Francisco Núñez and I'm a Computer Science Engineer from Honduras who started learning about blockchain about 2 years ago.

Last year, I've got a grant approved by the Ethereum Foundation to develop a project I called Honduras-Craft Market Supply Chain.

As part of my learning process, I developed skills on solidity, a programming language used to write smart contracts on the Ethereum Blockchain.

While learning, I've got encouraged to identify real world use cases for a blockchain like Ethereum. One of this use cases is supply chain management.

When I got introduced to Honduras Ethereum Community last year, they announced a local grant program for Honduras, making me think of ways to use the Ethereum blockchain to solve problems in my community.

As we all know, the ongoing pandemic affected people's lives everywhere. Most heavily in industries like tourism, one of the main activities where craftmanship plays a role in Honduras.

It was then when I started thinking of people who depends on this income to subsist and how they are adapting to overcome the lack of international and national tourism in their places.

It's true they can adapt to subsist, but that would mean their craftmanship has to go away.

The solution I came with, which is the core idea of Honduras Craft Market Supply Chain, is to enable crafters in Honduras to sell their craftsmanship and offer their products internationally while giving their clients a way to validate that the crafts have been made by Honduran hands and Honduran materials.

Early this year I started working on developing the project which in part consist on launching an ERC-1155 token as the base of the supply chain tracking. Meanwhile I'm coordinating a pilot in a small touristic town named Valle de Ángeles where craftmanship is an important part of their economy.

I will be giving more detail on a later post on why I think an ERC-1155 token is the way to go, along with other technical details of the solution and how I overcome the challenges related to them like: building the storefront relying some aspects on IPFS, authenticity certificates for the crafts, and promoting the solution among the target users.

With this project, I not only hope to to solve the problem I mentioned before but to inspire others to identify and solve problems too.

When I started learning about blockchain it felt intimidating, 2 years later I feel more confident that this technology can actually help others.
